Viva La Vida: The Creative Trilogy

This album was basically an effort by English band Coldplay, to break away from their usual style and to try out for something a bit more creative and new, something that will help expand their horizon. Now compared to the rest of the bands albums most of the tracks in Viva La Vida talk about war and sometimes even death and God.

Now the firsts single released by the band in this album called “Violet Hill” also marks the first song which was anti war and was released by Coldplay. You can find very eminent guitar riffs in this song and a lot of work with the keyboards.

Now if you listen to it carefully you will find that the song is completely different from what the band originally started with.

Now this album was basically a creative breakthrough for the band and it shows the amount of experimentation that the band has tried out with the different instruments as well as vocals. You excluding the vocals part you can find a lot of experimentation when it comes to instruments in the track “Life in Technicolor”.

Now many of you know that the band was influenced a lot by U2 and you can see little bits and pieces of a flavor of U2 in this album too. If you want guitar solos which sound like something the Edge would play, then you can opt out for listening to “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for”. You even have very fierce chords in the song “Chinese Sleep” which pretty much dims out Martins vocals, which isn’t necessarily a good thing.

Now what people call the center piece of the album is a little song called “42” which contains contexts to ghosts and even heaven. But the actual center piece is really a song called “Lost”, which talks about going against all odds and holding your head high. It contains a drum beat which is almost tribal and the track is completely colorful. You even have an acoustic, piano version of this track which sounds just as brilliant as the original one.

You sometimes even have double tracks on the CD like Lovers in Japan/ Reign of Love, Yes/ Chinese Sleep Chat and finally Death and all his Friends/ The Escapist. Overall, this album has a very colorful flavor to it which isn’t like the usual Coldplayish one.
