All About The American Idol Top Ten

Excerpt from Mandisa
American Idol Top 10, Season 5

It was the evening of January 17, 2006, and I was on cloud nine. The premier of American Idol’s fifth season was about to air, featuring Chicago, my audition city. My friends, Chance and Jennifer, were hosting an American Idol premier party for me. They had made a fabulous feast and lit candles throughout the house, and more than twenty of my closest friends had gathered to celebrate and watch my debut. As I chattered excitedly with my friends, I felt like royalty. Chance had “crowned” me with a plastic tiara, while other friends had printed almost a hundred brown T-shirts that said, “Mandisa is my American Idol – All Hail the Diva,” beneath a shining star.

The amazing thing was that none of them had even known whether I was still in the running. I already knew I’d been selected for the Top 44, but I hadn’t been able to break my silence and share the news with my friends until tonight. When I did, the room erupted in cheers. I told them I wasn’t sure if tonight’s show would include my performance, but I had a strong positive feeling about it because I had seen commercials featuring my triumphant exit from the audition room.

After dinner we moved into the family room, crowding onto the couch and filling every chair. When the American Idol theme song began, I almost pinched myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. Little Mandisa had finally found the courage to stand up, leave the house, and take a chance.

The minutes ticked by, and I kept wondering when my audition would come on. I barely noticed when the phone rang, but Chance pulled himself off the couch to answer it. A moment later I saw him signaling for my attention and felt a fleeting second of irritation. Whatever it was, couldn’t it wait? Then I realized that something was up.

Tim McGraw Tickets – Tim McGraw Set to Perform at CMT Awards

CMT recently announced that Tim McGraw is part of an all-star lineup for the CMT Music Awards, set to take place in Nashville, Tenn. on June 9. The hunky country music star joins Brad Paisley, Toby Keith, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood and the Zac Brown Band on stage for the ceremony honoring outstanding country music stars. McGraw, along with his wife, country singer Faith Hill, is also spearheading a benefit concert called Nashville Rising, an event aimed at helping with flood recovery. Hill and McGraw recently issued a press statement, saying, “The damage that we’ve seen to people’s homes and the effect that the flooding has had on their lives is unimaginable. But we’ve seen the spirit of our community firsthand, as volunteers, church groups and our local business leaders rally to help.”

McGraw is currently on the road with opening act Lady Antebellum. Blake Shelton Tickets – Blake Shelton Among ACM Awards Performers

The 15th annual Academy of Country Music Awards will take place in Las Vegas on April 18 and Blake Shelton has been named as one of the performers. On March 23 the ACMs announced the batch of artists lined up to perform, and along with Shelton, Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn, Trace Adkins, Tim McGraw and Reba McEntire (who will host the country music awards show for the record 12th time) will take the stage. Hillbilly Bone is also the name of Blake Shelton’s most recent album, which arrived on March 2. Although Hillbilly Bone only has six tracks, Shelton is prepping another six-song album to arrive later this summer, reported CMT.com. Following the release of his new album, Shelton headlined his first concert at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on March 18. At the gig, Shelton’s duet partner and friend Trace Adkins turned up to lend his vocals to “Hillbilly Bone.” The track is currently sitting pretty at the top spot on Billboard’s Country Songs chart.

On March 23 AOL Radio revealed the title of the first single from the second installment of Shelton’s next six-song collection. Titled “All About Tonight,” the track is the follow-up to “Hillbilly Bone,” the only single from the first installment of the EP Six Pack series. The second installment is rumored to be due sometime in late August 2010. “All About Tonight” features Shelton singing: “I’ve got some wild ass buddies that love spending money / And I see you brought a couple of friends / Just tell me your name, I don’t need your number or a date next Saturday.” Wonder what his country-singing girlfriend Miranda Lambert, who is up for six ACM Awards, thinks of those flirty lyrics!

Vince Gill Tickets – Gill And Grant Celebrate 10-Year Anniversary

Some couples were just made in music heaven, and such is the case with Vince Gill and Amy Grant. Vince Gill is a versatile country star who has remained relevant over many years, and Amy Grant was a hit maker in her own right during the late 1980s and 1990s. On March 10, the musical duo celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary, remembering their Nashville nuptials in 2000. They have been collaborating on charities ever since.

His wedding anniversary isn’t the only thing Vince Gill has to celebrate lately. On Feb. 27, Vince Gill made an impromptu appearance onstage with guitar legend Eric Clapton. The dream gig happened when Clapton had a concert at Nashville’s Sommet Center, and Clapton was partway through his acoustic set when he called Gill up to the stage. The two played four songs together: “Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out,” “Running Faith,” “I’ve Got a Rock and Roll Heart” and “Layla,” before Gill stepped off the stage, but he came back at the end for “Crossroads.” Gill and Clapton will meet up again on June 26 at Toyota Park in Chicago at Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival. Other celebrities to join in include Jeff Beck, Sheryl Crow and Buddy Guy.

Even though he has notched many country-pop hits on the charts, Gill is also widely respected for his guitar skills. The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum (AKA the Cowboy Hall of Fame) in Oklahoma City opened a guitar exhibit in March, which displayed guitars used by country greats like Garth Brooks, Toby Keith and Marty Robbins. Vince Gill also has a guitar on display, and GATV quoted Gill explaining his history with the instrument: “I got my own guitar when I was 10, but until then, that was the guitar that I tried to learn on. [Dad] had two guitars. That’s the one I was always drawn to, to try to learn to play. I think it’s got to be the first instrument I ever remember seeing.”

Gill’s song “Go Rest High on That Mountain” will also be part of a new release called Sunday in the Country: 12 Inspiring Hits From Today’s Top Country Artists. The album will benefit the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and also includes Trace Adkins, Alabama, Diamond Rio, Tracy Lawrence, George Strait, Josh Turner, Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, Steve Wariner and Lee Ann Womack.

CMT Music Awards Tickets – CMT Music Awards Buzz Heats Up

The CMT Music Awards aren’t until June 9, but with the recent announcement of the narrowed-down list of nominees for the upcoming awards show, country music fans are clamoring for <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://www.stubhub.com/cmt-music-awards-tickets/”>CMT Music Awards tickets</a>. Overall nominations for the CMT Music Awards were announced in April, after which point country music fans voted to narrow down each category to just a handful of finalists. Jason Aldean, Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum and Carrie Underwood each received three nominations, while 10 other country-fried acts received two nominations.

The finalists for the Video of the Year honor have yet to be announced, and fans will have to wait until the beginning of the June 9 show in Nashville, Tenn. to find out! The 10 nominees for Video of the Year are Toby Keith for “American Ride,” Carrie Underwood for “Cowboy Casanova,” Lady Antebellum for “Need You Now,” Kenny Chesney for “Out Last Night,” Keith Urban for “‘Til Summer Comes Around,” Zac Brown Band for “Toes,” Jason Aldean for “The Truth,” Brad Paisley for “Welcome to the Future,” Miranda Lambert for “White Liar” and Taylor Swift for “You Belong with Me.”

The country stars with the most nominations apieceâ??Jason Aldean, Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum and Carrie Underwoodâ??all earned nods in the Video of the Year category. Aldean is also in the running for Male Video of the Year for “The Truth” and Collaborative Video of the Year for “Heaven” with Bryan Adams. Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood are both nominated for Female Video of the Year, for “You Belong with Me” and “Cowboy Casanova” respectively, while Taylor earned a nod for Collaborative Video of the Year for “Best Days of Your Life” with Kellie Pickler and Carrie for CMT Performance of the Year for “Temporary Home” from Invitation Only. Aside from Video of the Year, Lady A earned a nod for Group Video of the Year for “Need You Now” and CMT Performance of the Year for “Lookin’ for a Good Time” from the 2009 CMT Music Awards.

The 2010 edition of the CMT Music Awards will be hosted by Kid Rock. Country music power couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have more than a few collaborative efforts in their respective musical repertoires, but the husband-and-wife duo are always looking for more. McGraw and Hill can often be found at the same social galas and events, and the two Nashville icons have recently spearheaded an evening of country music performances as a benefit concert for victims of the Nashville floods in early May.

Dubbed “Nashville Rising: A Benefit Concert for Flood Recovery,” the McGraw/Hill-led June 22 benefit concert has taken shape and will feature some of today’s most popular artists as they make their way to Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville. Aside from Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, the evening’s co-hosts, the Nashville Rising event will also feature vocal heavyweights Brooks & Dunn, Miranda Lambert, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean, Amy Grant, Miley Cyrus, Martina McBride, LeAnn Rimes, Michael W. Smith, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Luke Bryan all as performers.

The Nashville Rising benefit concert in late June will donate proceeds to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and its flood relief efforts. In a joint statement to the press, McGraw and Hill said, “The damage that we’ve seen to people’s homes and the effect that the flooding has had on their lives is unimaginable. But we’ve seen the spirit of our community firsthand, as volunteers, church groups and our local business leaders rally to help.”
